What is the difference between the Educational Workshops and Counseling?

Education is often confused with intervention and therapy. Education refers to the transmittal of knowledge. Family bridges provides educational workshops that help build the knowledge base and thereby empower couples, individuals and youth through marital and relationship enhancement methods to improve healthy communication in order to  build and sustain healthy relationships and marriages.

In contrast, therapy is a type of one-on-one exchange with a trained and certified psychologist, social worker or other type of mental health professional to address the dysfunction in their marriage or other type of relationship. While the family bridges programs mainly focus  on educating youth, individuals and/or couples in marriage and relationship enhancement through evidence based models and curriculums, many of our project partners offer counseling services as a separate program.  Counseling services are run separately from the family bridges programs. This means that their may be a cost involved for counseling and since many of our providers are faith-based, the counseling services offered by the family bridges providers will also often integrate faith-based principles.
